Programs & Services Funded by the Northwest Network

For April 1st 2011-March 31st, 2012 the Northwest Alberta FASD Service Network has been approved for a Grant of approximately $610,000.00 by the Alberta FASD Cross-Ministry-Committee. These funds will be used to support the enhancement and delivery of FASD-related services throughout the Northwest Alberta Service Network for year 4 of the network. The Network also received a Grant Extension for $61, 016.36 for unallocated 2010-2011 funds. The funds from the Grant Extension are being utilized for the AWN Supports & Services Program for the 2011-2012 service year.

Two important things for you to know:

  • The support services are for children, youth and adults
  • A diagnosis is not needed to be eligible for support services

Service Areas

Grande Prairie and the following communities in the Grande Prairie area: Beaverlodge, Bezanson, Clairmont, Debolt, Elmsworth, Grovedale, Horse Lake, Hythe, La Glace, Rycroft, Sexsmith, Spirit River, Wanham and Wembley.

Peace River and the following communities in the Peace River area: Berwyn, Bluesky, Brownvale, Cadotte Lake, Dixonville, Duncan’s First Nation, Falher, Fairview, Grimshaw, Hines Creek, Marie Reine, Nampa, Peace River, St. Isidore, Whitelaw, Woodland Cree First Nation, and Worsley.

High Prairie and surrounding areas (west to McLennan, High Prairie east to Kinuso, Fox Creek and Valleyview) for FASD diagnosis, PCAP and Family Support Services. For the communities of Valleyview and Fox Creek assessment and diagnosis will be available with limited supports due to the large geographical area within the service delivery area. Grande Cache and surrounting area (within Network Boundaries)
Assessment and Diagnosis A FASD Diagnostic and Assessment Clinic is assembled for children in Grande Prairie and for children and adults in the Grimshaw office. The FASD Diagnostic and Assessment Clinic in High Prairie was enhanced to support the provision of services for adults and children  
Supports for Individuals and Caregivers

The FASD Support Workers will provide supports to caregivers and adults individuals affected by FASD.

Caregiver support groups offered in Grande Prairie and Grimshaw area.

The FASD Support Worker will provide supports to caregivers and individuals affected by FASD

Caregiver support group offered
in the High Prairie area

The FASD Support Worker will provide supports for individuals suspected or diagnosed with FASD of all ages and their families/ caregivers.

Supports  will include coordination of services, advocacy and mentoring.

Targeted and Indicated Prevention The FASD Mentorship Worker will provide mentorship to women at risk of giving birth to a baby with FASD through the Parent-Child Assistance Program

Network Partnership

WJS Alberta (Manning, Grimshaw, Peace River, Fairview and Nampa areas):

  • Supports for individuals and caregivers -The FASD Support Worker will provide follow-up diagnostic support to adult individuals diagnosed with FASD. The FASD Support Worker will provide transitional planning and support to youth in transition to adulthood who are suspected of being affected by or who have been diagnosed with FASD.
